Local girl runs successful blog after suffering with anorexia.

Jess Mell shares her blogposts on facebook

Jess Mell from Eastringtron’s blog, everystepanotherstory.blogspot.com, has exceeded her expectations after receiving over 8,000 views and receiving countless emails from people all over the world.

Twenty year old Jess started her blog in January after suffering with the life threatening eating disorder.

She said she wanted to write the blog to ‘educate others, aid her recovery and raise awareness about eating disorders.’

Her blog posts include content such as some of her diary entries from her time in hospital, ‘a letter to anorexia’ and a whole post written by her mother and her experiences.

The success of her blog has led to her becoming the lifestyle columnist for The Yorkshire times and she’s a listed blog on many eating disorder charity websites.

She said she is ‘overwhelmed’ after receiving emails from other suffered asking for advice and especially after receiving an email from a lady in America whose daughter is currently coming out of hospital after suffering with the anorexia.

She said: “when I first started recovering I seeked help from online blogs myself, however it was really hard to find ones that were postive.

”I was scared of seeing all the negative pictures show up so I thought why don’t I just make one myself and help others”

At her most ill, Jess weighed only 5 stone 13 and was admitted to an eating disorder clinic in Grimsby where she spent four months.

When speaking about her lowest time whilst she was living in the hospital she said: “it was awful, but I knew I had to do it.

“I was firstly put into a wheelchair for two weeks because my body wasn’t capable of holding my weight.

“I genuinely don’t think I’d be here today if i didn’t go into the hospital because I didn’t know how severe my condition was until I went and the nurses were my angels.”

Jess said motivation was key to get her through her time in hospital and having goals and experiences to look forward to such as a skiing holiday and travelling the world.

HOWDEN hosted it’s annual Christmas Fayre in the Market Place last night.

With various festive stalls, live music and even an appearance from Father Christmas, the event was a success with locals.

Many local businesses located in the town centre opened late as part of the occasion and joined in on the Christmas Spirit.

Owner and Manager of Market Place Chinese restaurant Golden Cottage, Tommy Wan said the yearly event is a positive prospect for the town.

He said: “I think it’s great when events like this happen.

“We should do more things like this throughout the year as it gets all the community out and about to celebrate and it’s a really great atmosphere.

“This year it’s even bigger and better with more stalls and the event spreading all the way over to the other side of town.”

He continued to say that the event is helpful with his business.

He said: “We’re always busy on this night so it’s really good to see everybody enjoying themselves and coming in for a meal afterwards or during.”

The Christmas Fayre had a whole host of festive food stalls such as a roasted chestnut van, a hog roast and a burger van along with Christmas tree and wreath stalls and fairground rides.

Live music from KCFM and Howden School students singing Christmas Carols accompanied the bustling atmosphere.

Sophie Cox, GCSE music student took part in the Carolling, she said she loved the Christmassy vibe.

Burger vans and Christmas craft stalls filled the narrow streets.

She said: “I’ve never sang here before but often visit every year.

“It was so much fun as everyone is in such a good mood and everything looks so pretty.

“It’s made me even more excited for Christmas and I’m so happy my school got involved.”

The busy event spread across the Market Place and High Bridge, closing off traffic into the town centre.
