Goole’s canal appeared on BBC programme, Inside Out Yorkshire and Lincolnshire about the new Leeds-Goole canoe trail that has just been launched.

The programme, shown on BBC one and presented by Paul Hudson, he showed Goole’s 100-year-old barge sobriety that runs all the way to Liverpool as he explored life on the water.

The programme featured the manager of Yorkshire Waterways Museum, Claire Hunt, and viewers could watch her describe how she thinks the new trail could benefit not only the museum but Goole in general.

Former bargeman Ernie Sherburn also spoke on the programme of his time working on Gooles Famous Tom Pudding coal barges and how they supported a huge amount of jobs. He said while speaking on the programme:

“well you can see by the craft around it has been busy but there’s just nothing for them to do these days.

“It’s such a shame because the potential is there.”

He continued to say how he is disappointed the barge isn’t what it used to be.

He added: “It’s good for leisure definitely but I’d still like to see it be used back for the real McCoy rather than just the pleasure craft.”
